Virangula Kaks are village-level community rooms for senior citizens in Beed district, Maharashtra.
Virangula Kaks are community gathering spaces established across villages in Beed district under the Zilla Parishad's 'Thode Se Maa Baapasathi Pan' initiative to address loneliness among the elderly. As of the latest report, 1,005 such rooms have been set up, often with cement benches in public areas or near temples, where seniors meet each morning and evening to socialize, exchange ideas, and find companionship. The program specifically targets 965 destitute seniors identified in the district, linking them with government schemes, health checkups, free medicines, and identity cards that enable free treatment through the Indian Medical Association. The effort involves collaboration among block development officers, medical officers, sarpanchs, gram sevaks, and organizations such as the Indian Medical Association, pharmacists' association, traders' groups, and Rotary. By providing a regular physical space for interaction and a gateway to essential services, Virangula Kaks aim to improve the well-being and social inclusion of older residents in rural Beed.
