The PSTW "Abdi" Binjai was established in 1979 and has undergone several name changes, including becoming Sasana Tresna Werda (STW) in 1994 and later Panti Sosial Tresna Werda (PSTW) "Abdi" Binjai. It was transferred to the local government in 2001 under Perda No 03 tahun 2001.
