Danceability Buffalo provides inclusive dance classes for special needs in Buffalo.
Danceability Buffalo began in 2007 when Christine, a special education teacher, and Robin, a hospice social worker, turned their lifelong love of dance into a program for individuals with special needs. Originally called Breaking Boundaries, the organization opened its first studio after a community fundraising effort and welcomed 64 dancers in its inaugural season. Over the past 18 years it has grown to serve over 200 dancers ranging from age three to 73, supported by hundreds of volunteers. The program welcomes participants of all abilities, with particular expertise in autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, selective mutism, intellectual challenges, mental disorders, and seizure disorders. Danceability has expanded three times and now operates a three‑studio facility that includes family waiting areas and a dedicated sensory space. Beyond weekly dance classes, the organization offers a six‑week summer program, a year‑round Fitness Frenzy, 2nd Generation Theater classes, and a Caregiver & Me program. The founders’ vision remains focused on creating a welcoming space for fun, friendship, exercise, healing, learning, support, inclusion, and respite.
