Amoxtli Book Club

Amoxtli Book Club, a Latinx‑focused reading group meeting in Chicago.

Amoxtli Book Club was founded in late 2022 by Stephanie Herrera, known as Soli, as part of her sobriety journey and a desire to connect with fellow “nerdy” and education‑loving friends. Meeting in the Pilsen Arts and Community House (PACH) on Chicago’s West Side, the group quickly grew from a handful of Instagram responders to a vibrant community of college‑educated Latinx professionals, artists, poets and musicians. The club’s gatherings each Monday from 7 pm to 9 pm combine reading, discussion and community‑building, and have spawned the Ruidosa Art Collective, which now produces the annual El Barrio Arts Festival. Amoxtli also hosts open‑mic nights, poetry workshops and author talks, such as interviews with Paola Ramos for the Sor Juana Festival and Dr. Lilia Fernández at the National Museum for Mexican Art. Members credit the club for expanding friendships, supporting research and creative work, and offering a space where Latinx Chicagoans can heal and grow together through literature and shared conversation.
