Art for Change Foundation is a New Delhi-based arts organization founded with the conviction that art plays a profound role in exploring questions of human dignity and the common good. For the last 18 years, the foundation has pursued a vision to see art shape society with beauty and truth, while helping artists find their place in society and flourish. The organization achieves this by creating spaces for art creation, professional and social growth for artists, meaningful public engagement, and benefiting the people whose issues inspire their work. Its genesis traces back to 2004 when four artist-friends met in a New Delhi apartment to paint about religious violence, a stimulating combination of reflection, creativity, and community that led to annual meetings tackling different themes. This eventually resulted in the birth of the arts organization in 2008. Today, in its 18th year of official existence, Art for Change has run 37 artist residencies, including 9 annual international residencies that foster cross-cultural interactions and long-term friendships. The group has held 71 exhibitions for diverse audiences ranging from people on the streets of New Delhi to Members of Parliament, and regularly runs art workshops for the city's most vulnerable citizens. Additionally, the foundation launched the monthly Delhi Artist Studio Tour to promote struggling young artists, organizes Art Melas to make beauty affordable for the middle classes while supporting creators, and holds various art classes and workshops to ensure art continues to play a positive, life-giving role in society.
