Amar Singh Club in Handwara is a community organisation dedicated to senior citizens. Its Managing Committee recently hosted a Symposium on Healthy Ageing in Srinagar, bringing together senior club members, invited guests and health‑department experts to discuss the physical, psychological and social challenges faced by older adults. Speakers included senior advocate Zaffer A Shah, doctors such as Dr Zubair Saleem, a geriatric counsellor, and Dr Naveed Nazir, a pulmonologist, who shared insights on ageing, post‑COVID concerns and the importance of fitness. Participants exchanged ideas on creating dedicated facilities for the elderly, and highlighted the need to distinguish ageing from illness. The event also featured a lecture on physical fitness by Mohammed Ibrahim Shahdad and a satirical performance by Zareef Ahmad Zareef. The club’s Honorary Secretary, Nasir Hamid Khan, emphasized the value of harnessing the knowledge and experience of elders to improve their quality of life. Amar Singh Club continues to support seniors by fostering dialogue, health awareness and community‑driven initiatives.
