Senior Citizens SS Club Chowadi in Jammu promotes Dogri language and culture.
The Senior Citizens SS Club Chowadi, based in Jammu, is dedicated to fostering community engagement through cultural preservation, with a specific focus on the revival of Dogri, the native language of the region. In collaboration with the Amar Singh Club Jammu, the club recently organized an interactive session aimed at promoting Dogri and its original script, Takri, which has seen a decline in usage. The club's leadership, including Chairman Dr. Kasturi Lal and President Maj Gen S K Sharma, has emphasized the necessity of incorporating Dogri into daily life and public spaces through display boards. Initiatives also target students and faculty from local colleges and universities to ensure the next generation remains connected to Dogra heritage. The club has secured support from prominent figures such as Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan and renowned Dogri writer Ashok Angurana, who have stressed the importance of using the mother tongue in communication and literature. Through these efforts, the club seeks to instill pride among Dogras and actively work toward restoring the visibility and vitality of their linguistic and cultural traditions within the community.
