Age-Friendly Club in Kochi offers free education and IT classes for senior citizens.

Started at Sacred Heart College, Thevara, in Kochi, the Age-Friendly Club provides senior citizens with opportunities to access free education through the help of undergraduate student volunteers. The programme teaches hundreds of elderly participants subjects such as information technology, spoken English, Communicative French, and Hindi. Designed to give seniors exposure to a real college atmosphere, the club fosters inter-generational interaction and keeps older adults engaged. While traditional offline activities faced disruptions due to the pandemic, organizers successfully transitioned to online platforms using Google Meet. In this virtual environment, a one-to-one learning system continues, with age-friendly student volunteers teaching each elderly student under the mentorship of a main teacher. The club also hosts online community events and celebrations, ensuring continued connection and learning for its participants, which include retired government employees.
