Xiao Yumen Dance Training Center in Lincang preserves Wa folk dance traditions.
Located in Lincang City, the Xiao Yumen Dance Training Center is dedicated to the preservation and transmission of Wa (佤族) folk dance, led by City-level Representative Inheritor Xiao Yumen. The center focuses on teaching traditional labor dances such as the Pounding Mortar Dance and Fire-Building Dance, which have been transformed from rural agricultural activities into nationally recognized cultural symbols. Through a comprehensive three-level inheritance system, the center offers Song Venue practice, community teaching, and school engagement programs at both primary and middle school levels. Instructors utilize oral instruction, physical demonstration, and scenario-based learning to help students master the unique hip swings, wave-like arm movements, and improvisational techniques characteristic of Wa dance. The center also collaborates with local educational institutions to create interest classes and fitness routines, aiming to bridge the generational gap in traditional arts. By integrating digital archiving, VR teaching systems, and immersive tourism experiences, the center seeks to revitalize endangered dances while fostering ethnic unity and cultural cohesion in the region.
