Other Places art fair (OPaf) is an inclusive, entirely outdoor contemporary art gathering held in and around Battery Leary-Merriam at the Angels Gate Cultural Center in Los Angeles. Founded eight years ago as a response to the expansion of LA Art Fair Week, OPaf provides a limitless platform for local, national, and international artists, projects, and galleries that are often excluded from broader conversations. Operating outside traditional art systems, the fair creates an alternative space free of commercial boundaries, welcoming artists of all backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. Admission is free or a suggested $5 donation. The event features artist-led workshops in weaving, voice and rhythm meditation, embroidery, printmaking, and mixed media sculpture, culminating in a communal kite-building project. Additional programming includes artist readings, talks, and a music and performance area. OPaf is a project by Other Places, a 501(c)(3) arts organization supported by a grant from the Los Angeles Department of Arts & Culture and Supervisor Janice Hahn. The fair also includes the exhibition "Built on Water," which examines the industrial landscape and layered histories of the Port of Los Angeles.
