Parent Support Group
Parent Support Group at The Gateway School of Mumbai for families of learners with disabilities.
The Parent Support Group (PSG) at The Gateway School of Mumbai was founded by Indira after experiencing the benefits of support groups in the United States. Over the past 12 years, this initiative has evolved into a vital platform where parents and caregivers can connect, share experiences, and build a strong network of mutual support. The group operates on a foundation of acceptance and non-judgment, providing a safe space for families to listen to one another, celebrate joys and victories, and navigate challenges together. While therapists act as facilitators, the PSG is primarily an opportunity for parents to understand themselves as individuals and connect with others facing similar experiences. Beyond the support group, the school also offers a Parent-Teacher Association that collaborates regularly on events and advocacy, as well as workshops focused on knowledge sharing. These workshops cover foundational areas such as sensory motor and behavior support, alongside specific strategies used in academic programs, and introduce parents to professionals like nutritionists and optometrists. Topics for these sessions are identified based on the evolving needs of the parents, ensuring optimal support for all learners.
