Los Pleneros de la 21 is a New York organization teaching and performing Puerto Rican bomba and plena music.

Los Pleneros de la 21 is a New York-based organization dedicated to the teaching and performance of Puerto Rican musical genres, specifically bomba and plena. The group received a Community Collections Grant from the American Folklife Center in 2024 to document musicians, teachers, and community members involved in these traditions across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Their work focuses on preserving the cultural heritage of bomba and plena music within the local community. As part of this documentation effort, the group collaborated with LeAna López, the primary interviewer for the project, to capture the history and practice of these genres. Los Pleneros de la 21 continues to serve as a vital center for cultural expression and education, ensuring that the rhythms and stories of bomba and plena remain alive for future generations in the New York area.
