Voices of Omaha

Voices of Omaha is a community choir in Omaha offering free annual performances.

Voices of Omaha is a community choir that has served the Omaha area since its first performance of Handel's Messiah in December 1969. Founded as a free gift to the community under the direction of the late Leota Sneed Strong, the choir has continued this tradition of admission-free concerts to the present day. Over the years, the ensemble has performed under the leadership of several artistic directors, including Thomas Brantigan, Michael Dryver, Z. Randall Stroope, Greg Zielke, Stanley E. Schmidt, Edward B. Hurd, and Paul Koenig. Membership is open to all community members without an audition, drawing passionate singers from Omaha and surrounding areas within a fifty-mile radius. To help cover operational expenses while keeping concerts free for the public, chorus members pay dues, organize fundraisers, and contribute toward stage poinsettias, with additional support welcomed through audience free-will offerings. The group's enduring legacy is also sustained by dedicated participants, including two original charter members who continue to sing with the chorus.
