Friendly social chess club meeting Monday evenings at Paragon Hotel in Sydney.

Check Mates Sydney Social Chess Club gathers regularly on Monday evenings for a friendly and laid-back chess experience. The club describes its games as 'competitive social'—competitive enough to keep things interesting, but relaxed and welcoming. Sponsored by the Paragon Hotel, the club enjoys free tea and coffee for members, as well as cosy, comfortable booths that are perfect for both playing and spectating. A typical club night runs from around 6 to 9 pm, beginning with early sessions focused on workshops, chats, technique talks, and tutoring, then moving into the main event of casual mixed games. The group is still growing, and plans include rolling out casual tournaments, timed matches, and a club-only ranking system in the near future. Based in Sydney, this club is ideal for anyone looking to play chess regularly, learn from others, or simply relax in a social setting with like-minded people.
