Gia Mantra Global Village
Gia Mantra Global Village is a sustainable spiritual township in Tiruvannamalai, India.
Gia Mantra Global Village began in 2018 when Donald Sequeira arrived in Tiruvannamalai for a Satsang honoring the spiritual teacher Adi Da and later opened a vegan cafe. With his wife Rosemarie Van Dam he purchased a large plot of land, inspired by communities such as Auroville, and started building a self‑sustaining township that now spans over 40 acres and welcomes residents from twelve countries and many parts of India. The project operates as a cooperative circular economy, emphasizing organic food production, rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling and groundwater recharge. Buildings are constructed from natural earth and recycled materials, using heat‑insulating techniques that eliminate the need for air‑conditioning and reduce grid dependence. Volunteers participate in organic farming, food foresting and healing programmes, while the community also works with local farmers to encourage organic practices. The township evolved organically without a fixed master plan, guided by shared values of conscious living and sustainable lifestyles.
