Interpretive Volunteers-Docents

Volunteer as a docent to educate guests about animals and conservation in Tulsa.

Interpretive Volunteers-Docents are adult volunteers who educate zoo guests about animals, habitats, and conservation at interpretive stations on zoo grounds in Tulsa. Docents receive training to use biofacts, activities, work with ambassador animals, and apply other teaching methods to engage broad audiences, with extended trainings available. Prospective volunteers begin with guest services training, and upon completing fifty hours as a guest services volunteer, become eligible to apply for interpretive and animal area volunteer roles. Volunteers are subject to a one-time joining fee that covers background screening, a uniform shirt, and a name tag, and those working around animals must provide proof of negative Tuberculosis testing. Volunteers gain access to VIC Net to view upcoming events, sign up for activities, open PDF documents, and track hours to date. For more information about volunteering, individuals can email volunteers at tulsazoo.org.
