In 1980, Grand Master Sami Kiblawi met a local Karate Instructor in a gymnasium in Beirut and rented it for three days a week to train in Kick Boxing. The group grew to include students and trainers from other martial arts schools. In 1989, Kiblawi acquired the gymnasium in full and received official notification from the Ministry of Youth and Sports acknowledging SHOGUN as an official training site.
