ChicagoCAC Child Life Volunteer Program in Chicago for children's center support.

ChicagoCAC invites volunteers to support its mission through various roles, including the Child Life Volunteer Program, Program Support, and the Community Advisory Council. Child Life volunteers, aged 21 and older with experience working with children and families, spend time with children during appointments at the center. They engage in age-appropriate play, assist with therapy dog sessions, and handle toy cleaning. Applicants must commit to at least six months of service and pass a DCFS and criminal background check; bilingual Spanish is preferred but not required. Program Support volunteers play a behind-the-scenes role, assisting with fundraising, organizing donations, sorting clothes for drives, and building furniture at ChicagoCAC and CAN Hope locations. This role is as-needed rather than regularly scheduled. The Community Advisory Council serves as an ambassador for prevention education and policy, meeting bi-monthly, though all current positions are filled. Seasonal opportunities include the December Kids' Holiday Event, where volunteers organize toy drives and help sort, package, and prepare thousands of donated gifts for families. Due to the confidential nature of services, direct client interaction is limited, and volunteers interacting with families must pass background checks and are encouraged to have the flu vaccine.
