The facility features an indoor farm utilizing water-saving hydroponics and aquaponics to grow microgreens and local food, which is sold in refill stations and wrapped in beeswax. Visitors can participate in clothing and durable goods swaps, laptop giveaways, and workshops covering topics such as solar energy incentives, the lifecycle of food, and composting. The group actively encourages businesses to reduce single-use packaging and teaches them best practices for waste separation and composting. Plant Chicago emphasizes serving its specific neighborhood, having moved from a former pork processing facility to ensure resources remain within the community rather than flowing outward. Upcoming projects in 2026 include further energy and carbon-saving installations, cosmetic renovations, and making the entire first floor ADA accessible.
