Sustainability Partners is an environmental network located on Chicago's South Side that facilitates the circulation of knowledge and the building of community connections. Inspired by movements such as Wangari Maathai's Green Belt Movement, Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots, the Edible Arts movement, and the Leave No Child Inside Initiative, the group develops new opportunities to bring the humanities to bear on urgent questions regarding how to connect with communities and nature in ways that promote peace, friendship, and justice. The organization seeks to foster philosophical reflection and a larger sense of justice and non-violence grounded in sustainability, food awareness, environmentalism, biodiversity, and social diversity. Sustainability Partners is committed to promoting creative and effective educational tools to help both young and old learn about these matters and their ethical importance. These tools include innovative transformations of public space, such as the Timuel D. Black Edible Arts Garden located on the grounds of 5710 S. Woodlawn.
