Tang Soo Do classes led by Master Kathleen Degnan in Chicago's Hyde Park.

Tang Soo Do is a traditional Korean martial art that combines kicks, strikes, and blocks for self-defense and artistic expression through combative movement, while fostering individual character, discipline, respect, and physical fitness. Classes are led by Sa Bom Nim Kathleen Degnan, a Master Instructor who has studied Tang Soo Do for nearly 24 years under Master Joe Fitzgerald and continues to train with him while also attending national seminars and tournaments. Master Degnan has taught in the Chicago area for more than 15 years, serving as head instructor for the University of Chicago’s Tang Soo Do club before launching her own program on the city’s north side in 2014 and opening a dedicated school in the Hyde Park neighborhood in late 2020. Students may attend up to four days per week, with at least two sessions recommended to cover the variety of exercises and ensure sufficient repetition of techniques. In addition to Tang Soo Do, Master Degnan has trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 2021 under Jay Valko and Justin Metcalfe, currently holding a blue belt, and she shares her enthusiasm for Tang Soo Do, Kali-Eskrima, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with her students.
