Books & Buddies Mentor group in Las Vegas volunteering to empower children with reading.

The Books & Buddies Mentor group in Las Vegas is a dedicated volunteer team committed to advancing childhood literacy across Nevada. This one-on-one weekly mentorship program requires a one-hour commitment each week, along with mandatory training and a background check to ensure the safety of children. Mentors work to empower students with reading skills, helping them succeed both inside and outside the classroom. The group operates as part of Spread the Word Nevada, an organization that has distributed over 8 million books since 2001 and served 1.5 million children. While the mentorship role is specific, the broader volunteer community also supports book preparation, warehouse operations, and team-building activities for groups. Volunteers must be at least 7 years old, with those under 18 requiring parental accompanitation or permission. The organization provides on-site guidance for most roles and covers all costs for mentor training and background checks. Interested individuals or groups can apply through the volunteer portal or request a team-building activity directly through the organization's contact channels.
