The San Antonio Liederkranz
The San Antonio Liederkranz is a historic all-male choir in San Antonio, Texas, celebrating 134 years of musical tradition.
The San Antonio Liederkranz is a distinguished all-male (TTBB) choir established on July 11, 1892, marking its 134th year of service. Founded by Fr. Henry Pfefferkorn as the Men's Choir of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in downtown San Antonio, the group enriches the spiritual ambiance of the church by performing at the 11:00 AM Mass every fourth Sunday, excluding July, August, and December, where they also sing during Midnight Mass. Beyond these church duties, the choir organizes two annual fundraising concerts: a Spring/Summer Concert featuring secular music held in June or July, and a highly anticipated Christmas Concert in early December showcasing a blend of English, German, and Latin carols. As a member of the Deutsch-Texanisher Sängebund, the Texanischer Gebirgs Sängerbund, and the Nord-Amerikanischer Sängerbund, the choir participates in regional Sängerfest events. Rehearsals occur every Monday evening at 7:00 PM at St. Joseph's Hall in the King William Neighborhood. The choir welcomes aspiring singers aged 18 and above to audition, aiming to continuously enrich its ranks with fresh talent. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the group is dedicated to artistic excellence, community engagement, and cultural preservation.
