NAWA is a registered non-profit organization established in Ghana in 1974, dedicated to promoting understanding and friendship between women of all nationalities residing in the country. Founded by a group of women seeking a deeper sense of purpose, NAWA has since provided thousands of women with meaningful volunteer and social opportunities. The organization currently boasts over 150 members representing more than 30 nationalities worldwide, welcoming both expat and local women to work together. NAWA's vision is 'Women Empowering Women and Children Together,' achieved through active volunteering with humanitarian projects and non-profit organizations, cultural tours, and purposeful social events. Members also engage in seasonal celebrations that include fundraising for charitable causes and participate in special interest groups such as book clubs, an environmental group, and discussion groups for French and English speakers. Beyond community building, NAWA publishes 'No Worries: The Essential Guide to Living in Ghana,' a resource written by members based on their years of experience, with all proceeds from book sales supporting charitable projects. The organization operates under the guiding principle of 'Sankofa,' meaning turning to the past to learn and move forward into the future, fostering meaningful collaboration to support vulnerable women and children in Ghana.
