Jin Sei Ryu Karate

Jin Sei Ryu Karate dojo in Chicago's Rogers Park offering karate, self-defense, and shiatsu.

Culture of Safety is a trans, non-binary, queer, neurodivergent, and woman-owned and led small business in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago that operates as an immigrant-friendly space and does not cooperate with ICE. The center teaches Jin Sei Ryu Karate, a traditional style aimed at developing mind, spirit, and body through an empowerment lens that is trauma-aware and welcoming to every body, with classes for children aged five and up as well as adults. It also provides Empowerment Self-Defense programs for individuals and groups, combining physical techniques with interpersonal skills to recognize warning signs, prevent violence when possible, and defend when necessary, while helping participants build cultures of safety and mutual respect in their communities. In addition, the center offers Zen Shiatsu massage, a bodywork modality that works on fascia and the nervous system to promote relaxation and address stress-related conditions such as chronic pain, digestive issues, insomnia, fatigue, anxiety, and depression. Space rentals are available for the matted training area, a conference and meeting room, and a massage treatment room.
