The Honeycomb Project is a trusted network in Chicago dedicated to putting kids at the forefront of social change through family volunteering. For over 15 years, the organization has mobilized a growing network of volunteers to support more than 50 local nonprofits, addressing critical challenges such as food insecurity, housing instability, and environmental protection. Honeycomb does more than simply connect families to causes; its dedicated team, including former educators, designs and manages every monthly project to strengthen nonprofit capacity rather than add to their workload. The group offers diverse opportunities for children ages 3 to 17, including family service traditions, a Leadership Corps for high school students in mentorship roles, and adult volunteers acting as teachers and community organizers. Participants engage in hands-on in-person projects organized by Honeycomb or explore a free library of over 2,500 online volunteer lessons for self-guided activities at home. By fostering lasting partnerships with nonprofits, schools, and businesses, the Honeycomb Project aims to build a sense of belonging and teach empathy, kindness, and civic action to neighbors in need across the region.
