The IUCC Chancel Choir is a sacred music ministry based in Irvine.
The IUCC Chancel Choir in Irvine is a dedicated 35-member church chorale committed to building a high-quality music ministry that honors classical and contemporary sacred music. Led by Music Director Dr. Chris Peterson and Accompanist Yuyoung Jeoung, alongside Ministry Chair Michael Wilcox, the choir gathers for intense Thursday and Sunday morning rehearsals focused not only on notes and rhythms, but also on the spiritual meaning, nuance, and passion behind each piece. The choir has a rich history of ministering through music at milestone events such as marriages, commissionings, and funerals, performing holiday and seasonal concerts, and engaging in community outreach including an interfaith Thanksgiving worship service with the University Synagogue choir spanning over 25 years. Members have also shared their music internationally on concert tours to Italy and France, supported IUCC fundraising, and provided comfort through home visits and recorded music. The music ministry prioritizes education by offering paid internships for area college students in conducting, voice, and hymnology, periodically hosting music theory classes, holding seasonal retreats, and offering Choir Lite during the summer months for occasional singers.
