Food for Health is a Los Angeles community group dedicated to preventing and alleviating hunger through advocacy, radical cooperation, and innovative strategies. The organization operates a weekly fresh foods market located at The Sinclair Hotel between Downtown LA and Koreatown, where volunteers gather every Tuesday morning to serve the community. This initiative relies entirely on the generosity of volunteers who assist with setting up the market, restocking fresh fruits and vegetables, assisting guests while they shop, and helping with cleanup. The group welcomes CalFresh recipients to participate and earn volunteer hours toward their monthly requirements. Volunteers are provided with training, a t-shirt or apron, breakfast or lunch, snacks, and free groceries. Participants are expected to dress comfortably in closed-toed shoes and review the Volunteer Manual before their first day of service, which is included in their confirmation email. Parking is available via street spots or a limited shared lot across the street, though the lot fills quickly. All volunteers must adhere to the health and safety guidelines outlined by L.A. Works.
