Egna Legna Besidet

Egna Legna Besidet (Amharic for “us migrants for us migrants”) is a women‑run humanitarian and advocacy organisation based in Lebanon. Since its founding in 2017 the group has focused on supporting migrant domestic workers, delivering essential aid such as food, blankets and mattresses while also raising awareness of the discrimination and safety risks they encounter. Operated by the workers themselves, the collective combines direct relief with campaigning for better legal protections and public recognition of migrant labour. By linking with other grassroots initiatives and international donors, Egna Legna Besidet helps channel resources to the most vulnerable households, ensuring that assistance reaches people who are often overlooked by larger NGOs and a fragmented government response. Egna Legna Besidet also collaborates with the Reclaim Our Rights collective, a network of migrant women activists from several countries, to amplify their advocacy. The organisation’s work is part of a broader network of mutual‑aid projects that have emerged across Beirut and the wider country in response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
