Dallas Public Library Volunteer Program offers roles for ages 14+ across branches and online.

The Dallas Public Library Volunteer Program welcomes individuals aged 14 and older to contribute to community service and library operations. The program supports court-ordered volunteers, primarily at the J. Erikson Central Library Branch in Downtown Dallas, though remote arrangements may be considered. Teens can join the Teen Advisory Council to create social media content, host programs, and earn school or college volunteer hours. Other opportunities include Book Master roles for organizing collections and assisting with inter-library book transfers, as well as Events and Programming Collaborator positions for helping prepare and direct arts, crafts, and storytime activities. Adult Learning positions are available for those passionate about teaching, including co-teaching English Conversation Classes online, instructing English Language Learning classes in person, or leading GED preparation groups in subject areas like science, social studies, reading, or math. Graduate Practicum Students pursuing an MLS or MLIS degree may complete their professional development at any library location. Yearly special events such as the Fairy Tale Closet in March and Summer Book Buddies also require volunteer support. All volunteers must complete an application form before contacting the Volunteer Coordinator at 214-671-9206 or emailing [email protected] for further details.
