Johnson County Christmas Bureau
The Johnson County Christmas Bureau offers teen volunteering in Kansas.
The Johnson County Christmas Bureau runs a free holiday shop serving more than 14,000 low-income Johnson County residents. Between mid-November and mid-December, 3,000 volunteers are needed to help set up, operate, and tear down the shop. Youth in the 6th through 8th grades can help set up and tear down the shop with one adult for every five students, and they can help operate the shop with a one-to-one adult-to-teen supervision ratio. Students in grades 9 through 12 can volunteer independently. Once teens reach 16 years of age, they can assist clients by working in a department or guiding a client through the shop as they pick out gifts and household supplies. Volunteer sign-ups typically open in October, and those looking for weekend shifts are advised to sign up early.
