Friends of the Library
Volunteer with the Friends of the Library and Lexington Public Library in Lexington.
The Lexington Public Library and the Friends of the Library welcome your time and talents to support library programs, services, and daily tasks through a variety of volunteer opportunities. Volunteers help connect with the community by assisting with After School programs, ESOL programs, Makerspace open studio help, and more. Additionally, the Friends of the Library operate the Friends Book Cellar bookstore in the lower level of the Central Library, where funds raised through selling books and gifts directly support the library, with help needed for sorting, shelving, and selling books. Internship opportunities are also available, focused on public services for students seeking course credit or enrolled in a library science program. Prospective volunteers must be at least 14 years old, with parental permission required for those aged 14 to 17, and go through an application process that includes a background check for adults, a screening, an orientation, and training. Volunteering provides opportunities to share talents, develop new skills, socialize, and contribute to the community while helping the library expand its daily tasks and special projects.
