Fire Kinship
Fire Kinship is a Native-led fire stewardship group in Los Angeles.
Fire Kinship is a community group based in Los Angeles dedicated to restoring traditional Native fire practices to Southern California ecosystems. Prior to the region's colonization in the 18th century, Indigenous communities utilized controlled fire regimes to maintain ecological health and community well-being. The organization actively works to counter prevailing attitudes of fear and illegality surrounding fire, advocating instead for a return to Native traditions where fire is viewed as a vital component of land stewardship, community welfare, and tribal sovereignty. Fire Kinship operates with a presence in the Los Angeles area, meeting on Wednesdays from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m., and on Thursdays through Sundays from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. Their mission centers on redefining the relationship between people and fire through the lens of Indigenous knowledge and sovereignty.
