Reading Women's Book Club

An informal Mumbai book club for women focused on female authors and art projects.

The Reading Women's Book Club is an informal meet-up initiative launched in Bandra, Mumbai, by Aqui of Bombay Underground Bookhouse and Dharavi Art Room. Dedicated exclusively to female authors, the group operates as an art project where participants gather every ten days to read a selected book and then create a piece of art inspired by it. This creative output can take various forms, such as poetry, photography projects, or sketches, all of which contribute to the creation of a zine intended for exhibition at the What About Art?// show on September 20. The club convenes monthly at the What About Art?// venue, featuring a curated reading list of ten books written by women, including titles like The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, and works by Alison Bechdel, Virginia Woolf, and Ismat Chugtai. The event is open to anyone who identifies with the female gender, making it a 'no bar' gathering designed to empower women through the shared discussion of art, literature, and female voices. The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, August 6.
