62nd Street Community Garden

62nd Street Community Garden in Chicago's Woodlawn neighborhood grows organic vegetables.

The 62nd Street Community Garden has been a vital Woodlawn asset since 2010, located on 62nd Street between Kenwood and Dorchester. In 2014, the garden became part of NeighborSpace, Chicago's only nonprofit urban land trust, which now owns the land to ensure its long-term preservation and sustainability. NeighborSpace handles insurance, protects the site from development, provides water for the plots, and offers technical and stewardship support to members. The garden is dedicated to organic vegetable production and giving back to the community. Members participate in the KAM Isaiah Israel Gleaning Program, donating excess produce to the local Hyde Park Kenwood Food Pantry. Garden boxes are also available on sidewalks for neighbors to harvest. While the garden is cleaned and cleared during winter starting in mid-November, it remains a prime example of successful, accessible urban gardening within the Woodlawn neighborhood.
