Center for Success
Center for Success Detroit: volunteer for youth tutoring and literacy programs.
The Center for Success is a nonprofit organization in Detroit dedicated to empowering local youth to achieve academic and personal growth. Our mission focuses on improving reading skills and inspiring students to reach their full potential. Volunteers serve as community role models and literacy tutors, partnering with individual students to chat, connect, and provide assistance with both literacy and life skills. We offer both online and in-person tutoring opportunities, though in-person sessions are preferred. Weekly programs are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with shifts ranging from 45 minutes to two and a half hours. While there are no strict weekly hour requirements, we expect volunteers to commit to 1-2 sessions per week. Participation involves completing a short application, informational videos, follow-up tests, and a background check. In addition to our weekly tutoring programs, the Center for Success collaborates with other community partners to host events such as the SDM2 Community Harvest Fest, which features karaoke, Halloween candy, and a costume contest. We also partner with organizations like Brilliant Detroit, SDM2 Project Education, the Redford Brightmoor Initiative, and Downtown Boxing Gym, offering diverse volunteering opportunities including health nights, free store assistance, and athletic support. For all questions or concerns regarding volunteering, please contact the Community Director, Gwen Mitchell, at [email protected].
