Redford Brightmoor Initiative
Redford Brightmoor Initiative in Detroit connects volunteers with weekly programs and community events.
The Redford Brightmoor Initiative in Detroit facilitates meaningful volunteering and community outreach through a variety of weekly programs and special events for 2026-2027. While weekly program participation is not mandatory for Detroit Partnership members, it is strongly encouraged to gain valuable experience. The initiative coordinates with several community partners, including the Center for Success, Brilliant Detroit, SDM2, and the Redford Brightmoor Initiative itself, to offer opportunities in literacy tutoring, mentoring, and direct service. The Center for Success provides online or in-person tutoring for youth, while Brilliant Detroit focuses on kindergarten readiness through tutoring and community events. SDM2 offers middle and high school tutoring and event support, and the Redford Brightmoor Initiative itself runs a free store where volunteers sort donations and restock shelves. Additionally, the Downtown Boxing Gym offers tutoring and athletic support for students aged 8-18. All programs emphasize commitment, with some requiring specific weekly hours or shifts, though many offer flexible scheduling. Interested individuals should contact Community Director Gwen Mitchell at [email protected] for questions or to sign up for upcoming events.
