Volunteer Memphis

Volunteer Memphis mobilizes volunteers to serve over 300 organizations across Memphis and Shelby County.

Volunteer Memphis mobilizes volunteers to make a difference in their communities and builds capacity for effective service across Memphis and Shelby County. As an action initiative of Leadership Memphis, the organization connects individuals, families, corporate teams, and community groups with meaningful opportunities to serve more than 300 nonprofit organizations and schools. Volunteers work daily tutoring and mentoring children, helping families find pathways out of poverty, and improving the local environment. Founded in 1975 as The Volunteer Center of Memphis by the Junior League of Memphis and the National Council of Jewish Women, the group evolved into Volunteer Memphis in 2000 and Volunteer Mid-South in 2009 before joining Leadership Memphis in 2015 to align its 40-year legacy with leadership development. The organization assists community organizations and businesses in developing successful employee engagement programs and promotes the power of volunteerism throughout the Mid-South. Volunteer Memphis plays a critical role in fostering collaboration among nonprofit, public, and business sectors, uniting citizens under the shared goal of building stronger, more connected communities. The group partners with Volunteer Tennessee, Points of Light, DOVIA, and the Memphis Office of Emergency Management to expand reach and impact. Residents can sign up for opportunities through the Galaxy Volunteer Portal, join the Corporate Volunteer Council, or attend annual events including MLK Days of Service and Volunteer Appreciation Month. Organizations may also register to host volunteers or attend training to manage their volunteer engagement effectively.
