Afroz Shah's Team leads sustainability, beach clean-ups, and waste reduction in Mumbai.

Afroz Shah's Team is a community group based in Mumbai dedicated to sustainability through direct action and education. Founded by Afroz Shah, the team has been conducting beach clean-ups and waste removal in slum areas and tribal villages around Mumbai's Versova Beach, Sanjay Gandhi National Park, and the Mithi River for over eight years. Beyond physical clean-ups, the group runs programs to reduce plastic waste at the source by providing household items in reusable containers rather than single-use packaging. The initiative aims to change mindsets and empower local leaders, estimating a 50-60% reduction in plastic pollution in served areas. The group also collaborates with other environmental activists, including Sanjiv Valsan, who coordinates forest fire response and tree planting in Aarey, and Stalin Dayanand, who leads Vanashakti in environmental litigation and mangrove protection. Additionally, Kedar Sohoni's Green Communities Foundation partners with the team to help residential societies and rural communities implement composting and waste segregation systems. Together, these efforts address pollution, habitat protection, and community-driven behavioral change across Mumbai and surrounding regions.
