Project Mumbai

Project Mumbai is a community group in Mumbai focused on sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Project Mumbai is a community group in Mumbai dedicated to advancing sustainability through civic engagement and environmental stewardship. The organization coordinates large-scale cleanup efforts, such as the recent initiative at Juhu Beach where volunteers removed nearly two tonnes of plastic waste. This flagship program, titled Jallosh: Clean Coasts, Restore The Shore, brings together students, residents, corporate participants, and municipal officials to address urban environmental challenges. Working in partnership with the Maharashtra Department of Environment and Climate Change, UNICEF India, YuWaah's Green Rising initiative, the state climate action cell, and the National Service Scheme, Project Mumbai promotes sustainable lifestyles aligned with India's Mission LiFE and the state's Majhi Vasundhara programme. Beyond physical waste removal, the group focuses on awareness-building, shoreline restoration, and waste segregation to foster eco-conscious behaviors. Project Mumbai highlights that consistent, small-scale community interventions can generate significant global impact, reinforcing the necessity of multi-stakeholder collaboration between government, civil society, and the private sector for effective climate action and resilient urban development.
