Green Communities Foundation (GCF)
Green Communities Foundation (GCF) in Mumbai supports sustainable waste management in urban and rural areas.
The Green Communities Foundation (GCF) in Mumbai is dedicated to advancing sustainability through community-led waste management and environmental education. Founded by Kedar Sohoni in 2017, GCF has assisted over 200 residential societies and communities in both urban and rural settings on their sustainability journeys. The organization focuses on promoting waste segregation, composting, and the establishment of low-resource dry waste collection systems, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas including villages in Maharashtra's Raigad district. GCF's work addresses the significant waste generation challenges in Mumbai, aiming to reduce the burden on major landfills like Kanjurmarg and mitigate health hazards associated with leachate contamination. By providing education, awareness programs, and practical solutions for managing wet and dry waste, GCF empowers communities to take ownership of their environmental health. The foundation operates with a belief that basic waste segregation is a bare minimum every community should achieve, striving to create a more sustainable future through the collective effort of ordinary people.
