Infant Hercules

Infant Hercules: a men's choir based in Stockton.

Infant Hercules is a men's choir that began ten years ago in Stockton, originally formed by a small group of 18 men who performed industrial and social songs on a field stage. Since then the choir has grown to about 80 members and continues to perform at a variety of local events, walking and singing across the Tees Valley. The group remains firmly rooted in Stockton while working with ARC and Blind Tiger to expand the Infant Hercules model to other boroughs in the Tees Valley, with the ambition of becoming one of England’s largest men's choirs. Members enjoy a relaxed, pub‑style atmosphere and the opportunity to sing a repertoire that reflects their heritage. The choir welcomes new singers who share a love of music and camaraderie. History
Ten years ago, a reticent and nervous group of 18 men stood on a stage in a field and blasted out songs that represented their industrial and social heritage. The men demanded their ‘musicking’ continued and they became Teesside’s first (and only) free and easy pub choir for men.
