Capital City Minstrels is a Delhi choir uniting diverse voices in choral music.
Capital City Minstrels is a nearly three-decade-old choral ensemble based in Delhi that unites singers from varied professional backgrounds and ethnicities to create a symphony of harmony. Founded in 1994, the group originally consisted of only ten members, primarily expats and diplomats, but has since grown to include seventy vocalists from fields such as medicine, law, education, journalism, and diplomacy. While rooted in the tradition of sacred music, the choir is not affiliated with any religious body and has consciously diversified its repertoire to include Western classical works by composers like Schubert and Mozart, as well as Jazz, Broadway, Pop, and songs performed in multiple languages. The group meets weekly for two-hour rehearsals and has been guided by conductors from Germany, France, Hungary, America, Korea, England, Russia, and India over the years. Following the pandemic, which altered their usual schedule of two annual seasons, the Capital City Minstrels are currently concluding their season with a concert at the Kamani auditorium in Delhi in November. Their mission remains to foster unity through music, ensuring that every voice counts within the ensemble.
