The Delhi Christian Chorus (DCC) is the city's oldest performing choir, founded in 1965 when singers from various churches gathered to perform in the courtyard of the New Delhi YMCA. Now in its 58th year, the group consistently presents sacred music to Delhi's music lovers, having introduced over a hundred new composers to city audiences. Dr. Royall S McLaren, the director, notes that the choir's repertoire includes traditional, contemporary, folk, spiritual, and classical compositions. The membership is entirely voluntary, welcoming singers from diverse backgrounds regardless of faith or cultural origin. Over 3,000 people have participated in the choir since its inception, including representatives from embassies in Canada, the USA, Nigeria, and New Zealand. DCC has been supported by notable figures, including former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and has trained soloists who now perform internationally or lead groups in other cities. Beyond entertainment, the choir raises funds, with the majority of proceeds supporting organizations dedicated to the care and upliftment of the poor, needy, sick, and aged. The group remains committed to spreading a message of universal love, peace, and brotherhood through its music.
