Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma mentors at-risk children in Oklahoma.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma establishes mentoring relationships for at-risk children, many of whom come from single-income or single-guardian households. The organization currently has more than 75 children, known as Littles, waiting for a Big Brother, Big Sister, or Big Couple to spend time with them. Volunteers are matched through either the Community Based program, where matches meet a few times a month based on their own schedules, or the School Based program, which takes place at the child's school and focuses on providing friendship and guidance beyond just schoolwork. In addition to direct mentoring, volunteers can assist with office tasks, match activities, and fundraising events. To serve as a Big, volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, complete the interview process, and pass both a background check and a reference check. Bigs are required to commit to being matched for at least one year. All other volunteers must also pass a background and reference check. For more information or to apply, interested individuals can contact Jeff Moody at [email protected] or call 405-226-8865.
